This post is part of Mashable's Spark of Genius series, which highlights a unique feature of startups. If you would like to have your startup considered for inclusion, please see the details here. The series is made possible by Microsoft BizSpark.

Name: Goalforit

Quick Pitch: Goalforit! helps users and networks set, manage and achieve their goals through an online platform that tracks and records progress.

Genius Idea: Many so-called experts will tell you that achieving anything starts with setting goals. Of course, there is a big difference between dreaming and achieving, and Goalforit looks to steer you towards the latter, with a web app that encompasses all of the necessary ingredients for achieving a goal, large or small.

The process starts by setting up a goal – say, "retiring by age 40." You can then list out the steps needed to get there, set a target date, and publish the goal so that either friends-only or the Goalforit community can provide encouragement.

Along the way, you can check off steps you achieve and journal your progress. You can also browse the categorized goals of others, so if you're looking to lose weight, learn a language, or play the violin, you can find others who share that ambition.

In all, if you want to put your goals in action, Goalforit has the process covered top-to-bottom. And unlike a self-help book, it's completely free.
